French Watchmaking.

French watchmaking. Jura, France is the historic land of traditional French watchmaking.

Until the seventeenth century, leading experts were installed in Blois. And if these Huguenots, driven by the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, left to develop their skills especially in Switzerland, Paris remained with London, the main counter of luxury watches, Switzerland is then back of a production and development base.

It is in France that were played most of the issues of mechanical watchmaking.

One example is Abraham Louis Breguet (Neuchâtel birth, naturalized French) who invented the Tourbillon.

Today though Cartier, Hermes and Louis Vuitton (French brands) are located in Switzerland, the French watchmaking is still alive like Pequignet, L. Leroy, Yonge & Bresson, Yema, Lip …

Every day, 17,000 French cross the border to work in the Swiss manufactures, and most reputable training schools are located in France.

A significant number of founders of famous brands come from France, as Richard Mille.
